Can a girl text a boy?

ok this may sound really stupid but i need to know. I have always had a rule that i never text a boy they always have to text me first. But for the past couple months i've been seing this guy and he has talked to me everyday. I went away to my hometown for the weekend and he hasnt talked to me since thursday. I dont know if i should text him or just wait until i get home. i dunno. i need help!
