Insight into the character of ELLE on the show HEROES?

I am a huge Kristen Bell fan ( Lord do I miss Veronica Mars ) and have tried watching the 2nd season of Heroes. But I guess I am a little lost because I didn't see season one. I know Elle has the electricity power and has some conection to Claire, but I know I am missing something. If you can help please do:)
